FAQ
What is spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is intentional time and space for you to partner with your spiritual director and the Holy Spirit to explore the work of God in and around you. Each session provides a quiet pause amidst the demands of life and an opportunity to engage more deeply with God and His transformative work.
Why do people go to spiritual direction?
The simplified version is people experience a deep spiritual longing or hunger and want to engage with that and not ignore it. Spiritual direction provides the time, space, and safety to get curious about that longing and explore it in a party of three – you, spiritual director, and God.
What are common reasons people seek spiritual direction?
-
To connect more deeply with God
-
To process through spiritual questions and mystery
-
To identify areas of strength and weakness and mature in faith
-
In search of greater love, life, and freedom.
What is a session like?
In a typical spiritual direction relationship, people meet monthly with each session being 50-60 minutes.
Can I try it out first? How can I know if this is a good fit?
Like any relationship, it’s important to find a great fit. I offer a free, 30-minute initial meeting for you to ask questions, for me to explain specifics, and for both of us to discern if it would be a good fit.
If all is well, you can schedule a spiritual direction session. I strongly encourage committing to three sessions and then checking in to evaluate if the sessions are helpful. After that, I typically check in every 6 months to re-evaluate.
If you are looking for something different, I can offer a list of referrals to other spiritual directors.
Do you work with those who cannot pay $75 per session?
I am committed to prayerfully considering each request. Please fill out the contact form with a brief explanation and requested payment amount.
What else is important to know?
I am committed to nurture my ongoing relationship with God, to continue to be in spiritual direction myself, and to participate in regular supervision as long as I am in this ministry.
Bottom line — It is my desire to love God and love others well. I aim to operate within the framework of right relationship with God, healthy boundaries, and compassionate accountability to make this desire a reality.
